Barrie Police make arrest following string of heavy equipment thefts in Barrie and beyond

Suspect facing 13 charges including possession of an automobile master key

Barrie Police say they have closed the book on a series of heavy equipment thefts stretching from here to the GTA.

The local service began investigating a string of thefts in November of last year, following reports from Barrie, Mississauga, and Etobicoke that Kubota and Bobcat skid steers were stolen from job sites throughout.

Investigators honed in on a suspect and were keeping tabs on them in April, 2021 when they say he tried to steal another piece of heavy equipment. Police say the suspect tried to steal a Kubota tractor from a location in Scarborough and was interrupted when the owner unexpectedly arrived on scene.

A search warrant was executed at a condominium in Innisfil, after which police say a 39-year-old man was arrested. He faces 13 criminal charges including theft and possession of automobile master keys.
