Barrie Police officer credited with saving man’s life after performing CPR in the driveway

Officer patrolling neighbourhood for stolen car when he spotted man collapsing

Barrie Police Sgt. John Parcells was in the right place at the right time to save a life.

Sgt. Parcells was on patrol in the Heather Street area Sunday morning, on the prowl for a vehicle reported stolen, when he spied 89-year-old James Hall collapse in his driveway while removing snow.

Parcells jumped out of his squad car and began CPR while calling in County of Simcoe paramedics. Police say Mr. Hall responded to the CPR and was taken to the hospital and is on the mend.

“Mr. Hall made a full recovery and was released from hospital a short time later, reads a statement from the Barrie Police Service. “There is no doubt that the outcome of this incident could have been very different if Sergeant Parcells had not been where he was at the time Mr. Hall collapsed.”

Sgt. Parcells is a 32-year veteran of the service.
