Barrie youth hockey team iced by COVID

Five or six players are infected according to the chairman of Barrie 'AAA' hockey

At least five or six players with a Barrie ‘AAA’ hockey team are infected with COVID-19 and are in isolation.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed an outbreak among a youth hockey team in Barrie but did not disclose how many individuals have confirmed cases.

Barrie ‘AAA’ hockey organization chairman Hugh Campbell told Barrie 360 the team is made up of mostly 15-year-olds and he was unaware if any of their family members have been infected.

Campbell doesn’t know how the boys contracted the virus. He said they don’t have a league going on, and the players were just doing their regular practicing.

Campbell said they are following guidelines given to the organization by the health unit.

He said he was a little surprised by the outbreak, but not shocked.

The organization has eight teams in total, and as of now, Campbell said there is no change to their practice schedules.
