Barrie’s provincial offenses act court remaining closed until October 16

Resolution by phone being offered as of September 29

Barrie’s provincial offenses act (POA) court will remain closed until mid-October

The City of Barrie confirmed on Thursday the POA court will be closed up to and including October 16, and all matters will be rescheduled. Defendants should expect the notice of a new date via mail.

Common matters that would appear in a POA courtroom include highway traffic act charges like speeding, municipal by-law charges like parking or excessive noise, or charges laid under other provincial legislation like the liquor act.

Starting September 29, prosecution staff will be available by phone to discuss resolution of POA matters. Those with or waiting for a Notice of Trial can call (705)797-5357 to speak to prosecution staff to discuss a resolution.

Enforcement of past due fines have been suspended until the beginning of December.
