You’ll bear-ly believe it: a bear shut down an Orillia high school Monday afternoon

Ministry of Natural Resources officers spent Monday afternoon trying to relocate bear and cub

A bear spotted in an Orillia neighbourhood prompted a hold-and-secure state at a nearby high school on Monday afternoon.

The bear was spied near Orillia Secondary School around 1:30 p.m. Monday and the school was put in a precautionary state as officials moved in to deal with the bear.

By mid-afternoon, police confirmed that the Ministry of Natural Resources was in place to deal with not one, but two bears. The OPP said Natural Resources officers were working to move a mother bear and her cub to a more safe and suitable location.

The hold-and-secure was lifted at Orillia Secondary at just before 4 p.m. according to the Simcoe County District School Board.
