Beaver Valley Ski Club in Markdale has closed for the rest of the season after one of its members tested positive for COVID-19.
A memo was sent out to members Saturday, stating the ski hill is closing effective immediately. Their Board of Directors and Senior Leaders released a timeline of events that lead to the decision.
How the ski club came to the decision
Morning, Friday March 13 – The Club was made aware that a Member tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Evening, Friday March 13 – The Club was in constant communication with the public Health Unit overseeing this case and was advised based on the most up to date information and data that there were no concerns of transmission to other Members, Guests and Staff.-AT THIS TIME, THE PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT HAD NO RELEVANT DATA OR INFORMATION THAT SUGGESTED THE CLUB SHOULD BE CLOSING.-
Late Night, Friday March 13 – The Public Health Unit communicated to our General Manager Tim Oliver with an update on their original assessment. Based off new information, there is probability that the infected host Member could transmit the virus while at the Club over the weekend of March 7 & 8, 2020.-WE ASK ALL MEMBERS WHO WERE AT THE CLUB ON MARCH 7 & 8 TO SELF MONITOR FOR ANY SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS.
9:30am, Saturday March 14 – The Club has been made aware of two (2) Member Families who are currently being tested for the COVID-19 virus, with results currently unknown at this time-BASED ON THIS RECENT INFORMATION, BEAVER VALLEY SKI CLUB IS CLOSING FOR THE SEASON EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
This decision has been made in an effort to reduce and further transmission of the COVID-19 virus to all Members, Guests and Staff. The Club thanks all parties for understanding this difficult announcement of closure and wish to pass on our thanks for the ongoing support through these developing times.-Further communications will be sent to the Membership as information and data becomes available to the Club.
