Body of missing Scarborough boater recovered from Lake Simcoe Friday night

Body of 21-year-old Kenean Teklemariam of Scarborough was recovered around 9 p.m. Friday

A sad end to the search for a missing boater.

The South Simcoe Police Service confirms the body of 21-year-old Kenean Teklemariam of Scarborough was recovered around 9 p.m. Friday. She fell overboard on the water of Lake Simcoe near the Big Bay Point Government Docks Thursday afternoon. Police say her body was recovered in the immediate search area.

First responders were first called to the Big Bay Point dock around 3 p.m. Thursday with reports a boater had fallen overboard and was swept away. Search parties were made up of emergency services include the South Simcoe Police, Innisfil Fire and Rescue, County of Simcoe Paramedics, Barrie Police, and the OPP.

The search was called off on Thursday evening due to adverse weather conditions, but resumed Friday in calmer waters.
