Body recovered from Sparrow Lake in Gravenhurst

Police had been searching for a missing canoeist since last Thursday

A body has been recovered by the Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Rescue Unit from Sparrow Lake in Gravenhurst in relation to a missing person investigation.

Bracebridge OPP say divers located a body around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. A positive identification cannot be made until a post mortem examination is completed.

Police had been searching for 56-year-old Ian Walker since last Thursday when he went on to Sparrow Lake with a canoe near his cottage and did not return. The Toronto man’s disappearance was reported by his family.

OPP say a cottager in the area found the canoe belonging to Walker later Thursday afternoon, but police said there was no sign of the missing man.
