Book of condolences for former Olympian figure skater from Barrie

People wishing to pay their respects to 31-year-old Alexandra Paul, a former Olympian figure skater from Barrie, can sign a book of condolences in front of the Mariposa School of Skating, located at the Allandale Recreation Centre on Bayview Drive.

Paul was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on County Road 124 in Melancthon Township, north of Shelburne, last week.

According to Dufferin OPP, multiple vehicles were stopped northbound on County Road 124 when a tractor trailer collided into the stopped cars.

There were seven passenger vehicles in total.

Paul, who was in a vehicle with her baby boy, was killed. The infant was transported by ambulance to a children's hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 67-year-old man was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre, while a 45-year-old female and a 28-year-old man were taken to a local hospital.

Paul and Mitch Islam won a silver medal at the World Junior Championships in 2010, and competed in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, placing 18th.

The ice dancing duo married in 2021.
