In a proactive move to enhance road safety, the Town of Bracebridge is lowering speed limits across its municipal road network. The initiative stems from recommendations in the Town’s 2023 Transportation Master Plan (TMP) and aims to create safer streets while supporting responsible growth.
"The Town is dedicated to improving safety and livability for all road users," said Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney. " Lowering speed limits is a vital step toward making streets safer, supporting housing accessibility, and fostering a vibrant community.”
Starting this year, urban roads will see default speed limits drop from 50 km/h to 40 km/h, while select rural roads will undergo reductions beginning in 2026. The changes are designed to improve stopping sight distances, reduce serious collisions, and accommodate accessible housing development.
Key Speed Limit Changes:
- Most urban roads will be reduced to 40 km/h.
- Select rural roads will be lowered to 40 or 50 km/h, depending on road characteristics.
- School zones remain unchanged under existing regulations.
- Ann Street will be reduced to 30 km/h to bypass a rail crossing upgrade.
Approximately 320 new signs will be installed before speed changes take effect.
