Bracebridge man drowns as he saves another from the same fate

Victim and three others went into the water to save an inexperienced swimmer

A Bracebridge man is dead after trying to save an inexperienced swimmer.

Three women and a man noticed a swimmer in distress at Kevin Grove Park in Bracebridge around 2:00 Monday afternoon. The four entered the water to try to save the 24-year-old inexperienced swimmer, but the man fell below the surface.

He has since been identified as 51-year-old Kevin Schell.

The three women and the swimmer in distress were able to get safely to shore. Muskoka Paramedics Services, Bracebridge Fire, and OPP were called to the scene, and the underwater search and recovery unit recovered Schell’s body around 9:00 that evening.
