Staff at Barrie City Hall are breaking out the calculators, with budget time upon us. Thanks to the budget allocator tool, you’ve got a chance to weigh in on the math.
Every time budget season arrives in the city, Barrie taxpayers can share where they’d like their tax dollars spent. Do you want better roads? Sure, but where do you cut those funds to make up the difference? Maybe parks, or libraries, or perhaps the fire service takes a hit.
The budget allocator tool allows residents to test spending options for many city services by increasing or decreasing the budget for each area while trying to maintain a balanced budget. Check it out on the City of Barrie website.
“With the ongoing effects of COVID and the financial pressures facing our City, it’s more important than ever to understand the priorities of our residents when it comes to spending on City services,” notes Mayor Jeff Lehman. “The budget allocator tool allows residents to help Council with the choices around these services — after all, it’s your money, so tell us how you want it spent and help us chart a course for Barrie’s future.”
Budget allocator results will be shared with city council during the 2022 budget process, with the aim of providing insight into public priorities.
