Catholic School Teachers’ Union walking the picket line on March 5th

one-day job action called as talks break down

Members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) will hold a province-wide walkout on March 5th which would affect all schools with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.

A mediator called members of OECTA and the province back to the bargaining table, leading to the suspension of rotating job action. Talks quickly broke down. “Instead of coming to the table with a plan to reach an agreement, the government continued to insist on its deep, permanent cuts,” says OECTA President Liz Stuart.

OECTA began administrative action on January 13th and, similiar to other teachers’ unions in the province, have been ramping up since, as unions and the province fail to see eye-to-eye on a number of issues.
