South Simcoe Police say a man they charged with impaired driving had a child in the vehicle.
Shortly before 8:30 Thursday evening, police say officers saw a man leave a convenience store with a child and alcoholic beverages. He entered the driver's side of the SUV with the alcohol, and the child got into the passenger side.
As the vehicle pulled out of the shopping plaza on Innisfil Beach Road, police initiated a traffic stop.
Officers spotted the unopened alcoholic beverages and detected a strong odour of alcohol coming from the driver.
Two breath samples were provided and as a result, police charged a 44-year-old Innisfil man with impaired driving, driving a vehicle without current permits, and operating a vehicle without insurance.
The SUV was impounded, and the man's driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
