Now that Collingwood council has given its final approval to the 2020 budget, residents can expect the property tax bill to increase by about $25.

This year, the town’s operating budget sits at $59.7 million and accounts for the costs to provide services like transit, recreation, and roads. It also covers staffing and administrative costs. The capital budget, which covers the costs of projects and expenses like infrastructure and facility construction, comes in at $32.8 million.

“With this budget, the Town strives to balance the needs of current residents and the challenges of our community’s unprecedented growth and mounting investment needs, with finding opportunities for service efficiency, business attraction, and enhancements to our waterfront and public spaces,” says Mayor Brian Saunderson, “The Town continues to commit significant funding to infrastructure upgrades and customer service enhancements.”

The 2020 budget represents a 1.13 percent increase over last year.
