Conservatives Holding Liberals To A Lake Simcoe Promise
“Lake Simcoe is extremely important to Central Ontario"
Some local federal Conservatives are looking for a timeline on a Liberal promise.
Six local Conservative MPs have signed a letter addressed to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, asking for a timeline on a Lake Simcoe cleanup fund.
On the campaign trail, Liberal Chrystia Freeland stopped in Barrie to announce $40 million in funding towards cleaning up the lake. Six MPs, including both Barrie-area representatives, have asked in writing that a timeline be provided, including a firm date at which funding should be expected.
“We want the Prime Minister to make good on his election promise to this area and immediately give us his commitment a date that the fund will be restored,” said Barrie-Innisfil’s John Brassard. “Lake Simcoe is extremely important to Central Ontario and we need to make sure we are doing all we can to keep the lake healthy for future generations.”
A similar, 10-year fund that was created by the Conservative Government of the day, expired in 2017 and was not renewed.
