COVID-19 cases rising among young people in Hamilton-area
May be getting lax about precautionary measures
The Hamilton-area is seeing a lot of new COVID-19 cases among people in their twenties – many of them in their early twenties.
The city’s medical officer of health says 43 percent of the people diagnosed in the last ten days are aged 20-29.
Dr. Elizabeth Richardson told CBC News people in that age group seem to be falling out of habits like handwashing, mask-wearing and maintaining a physical distance of two metres from each other.
She also says there may be a perception that only older people get seriously ill from the virus, which is not true.
Hamilton Public Health Services is going to launch a campaign to get that message across to young people.
