Toronto police have arrested two men and laid nearly 200 combined charges in connection with distraction thefts in Barrie, the GTA, Niagara Region and Guelph.
Police said the thefts occurred between March 8 and June 20.
They said the two men would approach drivers and tell them that they were having trouble with their car.
It’s alleged that one of the men would distract the victim while the other stole personal items.
Investigators said the stolen credit cards and debit cards were used to make purchases and withdraw money.
A 46-year-old from Burlington and a 35-year-old from Vaughan have been charged.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
