Driver Charged After Car Hits Cookstown House
Gas Line Struck, Highway 89 Shut Down
A young driver is facing a Dangerous Driving charge after police say he hit a house in Cookstown, ending a short police pursuit.
South Simcoe Police began chasing the suspect vehicle after they say it was clocked at a high rate of speed. Officers called off the brief pursuit for safety’s sake, but say the vehicle lost control regardless.
The vehicle left the roadway, striking a house on Highway 89 near King St. in Cookstown before 9:00 Friday morning. A gas line was also struck, requiring a full road closure while the line was capped.
A 23-year-old man has been charged.
