Driver charged after vehicle fled Gravenhurst RIDE check and ended up in ditch

Brampton man facing charges

A Brampton man is facing charges after police say a car fled from a RIDE stop.

Officers with the Gravenhurst OPP were conducting a RIDE check on Sedore Road around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon when they say a vehicle approached and then turned around. The OPP say the vehicle drove off at a high speed, but officers caught up with the vehicle after it lost control on Muskoka Road South, landing in a ditch and became partially submerged in water.

The two people in the car are accused of trying to walk away from the scene despite officers’ directions and were soon arrested. The driver, a 21-year-old from Brampton, is facing a dangerous driving charge. The other occupant, a 17-year-old, was not charged.
