Drug, theft charges laid after vehicle struck a tree in Coldwater

Police discover fentanyl inside stolen vehicle after crash

A Georgian Bay Township man is in hot water with the law after a crash in Coldwater.

Just before noon on September 25, first responders were summoned to a single-vehicle crash in which a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. While the driver was being tended to by County of Simcoe Paramedics, police probed into the vehicle a little deeper; that’s when officers discovered the vehicle was reported stolen.

The 48-year-old man behind the wheel was placed under arrest and a subsequent search turned up a quantity of fentanyl.

Charges laid include possession of stolen property, drug possession, careless driving, and driving under suspension. The suspect is expected in Orillia court on December 1.
