Drugs and suspected counterfeit merchandise seized during traffic stop in Orillia

Two suspects facing a total of 25 charges including drug offences

There is no such thing as a routine traffic stop.

Proof of that was shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday when OPP officers approached a vehicle that was stopped on the side of Barrie Road near downtown Orillia.

Following a chat with the driver, police initiated a drug investigation and a search was conducted. During the search, one of the suspects allegedly assaulted officers in an attempt to flee in the vehicle. A man and a woman were arrested. As the search continued, police seized a quantity of cocaine, Canadian currency and a large number of what is believed to be counterfeit, high-end brand name merchandise.

A 27-year-old Toronto man is facing a number of drug and property crime charges as well as five counts of assaulting a police officer. A 33-year-old woman from Essa Township is up on drug-related charges, obstruct and flight from police, and escape lawful custody.
