A roadway in Washago gets the dubious honour of being the only entry from our region on the Ontario’s Worst Roads List this year.
Riverdale Drive in Washago placed second on the annual offering from CAA, behind Eglinton Ave. East in Toronto. Another GTA road, Dufferin Street, rounds out the top three.
Of note, Duckworth Street in Barrie has dropped off the top ten list entirely. The north-end road started seeing some long-awaited reconstruction back in September, with phase two of the project expected to last until July. Lockhart Drive also made last year’s list but is absent from the 2019 tally.
Voters cast their digital ballots over roadways they felt had the most crumbling pavements, potholes, traffic congestion or poor road signage. The annual campaign is designed to bring awareness of trouble spots to municipal leaders.
“Those campaign success stories are because governments are prioritizing infrastructure through multi-year capital investments,” says Raymond Chan of CAA Southern Central Ontario. “CAA will continue to advocate for longer-term dedicated infrastructure funding to help municipalities prepare, plan, budget and execute on repair backlogs and capital projects.”
