Adult website Pornhub noted jump in traffic during Facebook outage

Some put that free time to good use

Earlier this week, Facebook went down for a good six hours. That left some folks with plenty of time on their hands. And it looks like they put that time to good use.

The adult website Pornhub reported a just over ten per cent increase in traffic to its site in the midst of the Facebook outage on October 4.

The social media outage that also affected sister apps Instagram and WhatsApp began shortly before noon on Monday, October 4. It happened hours after a 60 Minutes segment in which Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen claimed the company is aware its platforms are used to spread hate, violence, and misinformation, with claims the company puts profits ahead of the greater good.

Service was restored shortly after 6:30 p.m., and Facebook said in a statement the outage was caused by a networking glitch that interrupted communications between its data centres. The company claimed there was no evidence to suggest user data was compromised.
