Barrie Fire cleared the scene of a scrapyard fire shortly before six Monday evening.
The blaze at All Ontario Recycling on Tiffin Street erupted shortly after 11:30 this morning and sent black smoke billowing into the air and which could be seen across the city.
Fire officials told Barrie 360 the fire was in a large pile of scrap vehicles.
The heavy smoke diminished several hours after the fire began and residents who lived nearby and were evacuated from their homes by police were allowed to return.
The Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Labour and the Ontario Fire Marshal were alerted about the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and there is no damage total.
