First Rider Program Helps Kids Get Familiar With School Buses

Program For JK Students Held Across Simcoe County

A program for first-time school bus riders was busy last week holding information sessions across Simcoe County, and there are more sessions to come, having been around to 30 different locations around the region.

For the last 8 years, the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium has been putting parents’ and JK students’ minds at ease with the First Rider program. Sean Levasseur, Safety and Accessibility Officer, says parents and students will hear helpful information and tips to prepare the little passengers for their first day of school.

When you attend the program you’ll be greeted in the gym and watch a short video about bus safety. The kids will learn how to safely load onto the bus, and then, the parents and kids get to take a ride on the bus together.

Levasseur says the program changes or expands a little every year based on feedback from parents.

The remainder of the 2019 First Rider Program dates and session start times are as follows:

  • Friday Aug. 30 (9 and 10 a.m.) Alliston Holy Family Catholic School
