Furry Friends, a well-known animal shelter in Barrie, has been given just a few months notice to find a new home and they're looking to the public for help.
For the past 8 years, Furry Friends has called 25 Hart Drive "home", but just a few weeks ago they were informed their lease would not be renewed any longer. The organization was told they would have to find a new place to house more than 100 feline residents by July of this year.
Furry Friends is a non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to providing shelter and love to almost 1000 abandoned, lost or rescued cats/kittens every year. For an organization that is funded solely by generous donors and operates entirely by dedicated volunteers, relocating poses quite the challenge.
A GoFundMe page was started with a goal of raising $200 000 to help Furry Friends secure a new permanent location. All funds collected will be put toward costs including moving trucks, legal fees, transportation of roughly 100 cats, furniture, cages and renovations to ensure safety and comfort of all residents.
Furry Friends has just 4 months left to raise enough money to support their transition during this difficult time and they are relying heavily on support from fellow animal lovers to do so.
