Gawley Park Beach in Midland gets 20-foot circles to aid with physical distancing

Been an influx of visitors with swim advisories at town's other beaches

The Town of Midland has introduced circles at Gawley Park Beach to help with physical distancing.

“With Little Lake Park Beach closed and Pete Pettersen Park Beach under a lengthy swim advisory, Gawley Park Beach has emerged as a popular destination for those looking for relief during hot summer days,” said Mayor Stewart Strathearn. “The installation of these circles will help provide a safer space for beach users, while also still allowing for residents to enjoy the beach.”

The circles are 20 feet in diameter (large enough to host a social bubble of beach users) and are spaced 10 feet apart.

In addition to the distancing circles, large boulders in the Gawley Park area have been relocated to prevent visitors from driving/parking in off-limit areas, and additional garbage receptacles have been added to accommodate the increase in activity.
