Georgian College helping female entrepreneurs make their mark

New program offers support and resources

It’s hard sometimes to find the support and resources needed to become an entrepreneurial success…especially for women.

Georgian College is hoping to change that with its XcelerateHER program.

The goal is to help women find inspiration for their businesses through education with peer-to-peer groups, mentoring programs, panel discussions, funding accessibility, and more.

XcelerateHER will launch on Oct. 9 at Larche Digital in Barrie (576 Bryne Dr., Unit D).

“By attending this event, women entrepreneurs will learn about how this initiative will provide access to tools that can alleviate the pressures related to starting a business,” said Jenna Green, Events and Promotions Co-ordinator for Georgian’s Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre (HBEC).

Green, an entrepreneur herself, said she would have appreciated a program like XcelerateHER when she was starting her own business Georgian Chocolate Co. “It would have given me a huge amount of confidence and inspiration to see a room full of inspiring women who are starting a business, growing a business or have been really successful in their business,” she explained. “It’s great to talk to like-minded people who are at various levels in their business life. There’s so much we can learn from them.”

The event is for women entrepreneurs and their partners, small and medium-sized business owners and business leaders.

XcelerateHER starts at 4:30 p.m. and will also feature refreshments, music and a Sip & Shop Marketplace with several women-founded businesses, including:

  • Shiny Soul Creations
  • Sizzle Sauce
  • Honey BEE the Change
  • Evergreen Massage and Wellness Studio
  • Oh Beehive
  • Georgian Chocolate Co.
  • Luisella
  • Two Sisters Naturals

“Women are amazing at being able to balance everything that we do,” said Green. “This event will definitely showcase that, along with everything else that makes female entrepreneurs uniquely talented and skilled business people.”

Here’s where you can RSVP for the event.
