Georgina Votes To Opt Out
One of a Select Few Voting Against Retail Cannabis Stores in Community
The Town of Georgina has voted 4-3 to opt out of allowing retail cannabis stores in the community. It joins a small number of municipalities voting not to allow pot shops within its borders.
In our region, Adjala-Tosorontio, Clearview, Oro-Medonte, Severn, Tay, and Wasaga Beach have all elected not to host potential marijuana stores. Many more, including last night’s Collingwood vote, are opting in. Others still, like Innisfil, have yet to vote on the matter.

All applicable municipalities have to decide whether to opt in or out of allowing retail stores by January 22nd. It does not mean stores will be built in the locations that opt in, just that they would be permitted.
