Giving students something to Remember

Interactive displays offer new view of both World Wars

Hundreds of students are going to get a local history lesson today and Friday in the lead up to Remembrance Day.

For a fifth straight year Jayne Turvey, Community Services Coordinator at the Orillia Public Library, has set up exhibits and interactive displays about both World Wars.

Turvey said she wants to make this more than a learning experience, but also something emotional, “How would you react if you were in a situation or you saw your best friend get killed beside you; what would your reaction be?”

Students will be given a soldier’s paybook and will go on a scavenger hunt through the exhibits, learning about a local individual and their war story.

The public is also invited to check out the displays Thursday through Saturday.
