You know what we're going to say, don't you? Yes, holiday celebrations are going to look a little different this year and you already knew that. However, what you might not know is that there are still tons of ways to celebrate this year with special freebies, events, and festivals.

Noella Festival

First up we have The City of Barrie's Noella Festival, a nearly two-month-long celebration overflowing with things to do and promotions to take advantage of. Downtown Barrie will be decorated in a number of ways including the Festival of Trees along the lakeshore and even local businesses are getting in on the fun by decorating their windows. Make sure to get yourself downtown and take advantage of the two-hour free parking and enjoy everything Noella Festival has to offer.

Winter Fun In-A-Bag

If you have an account on play.barrie.ca, there are a couple of special take-home bags to help you get the most of your celebrations at home. The Winter Fun kit is full of crafts, snowman stickers, and bracelets and the New Year's Eve Kit has create-your-own decorations and party favours.

Downtown Countdown

If you live in Barrie and have kids, chances are your New Years' Eve celebrations include a visit to the Downtown Countdown. While this year it is switching to a virtual format, starting at 7 PM the City of Barrie will host an hour-long family-friendly event with a countdown and returning favourite, Splash 'N' Boots.

Holiday Magic

Blue Mountain is always pretty, but during their Holiday Magic event, with snow falling and everything dressed up in garlands and bows, it is particularly beautiful. Take a stroll through the cobblestone streets on foot or take the Village Express Train on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled too because Santa Claus sightings have been happening on Saturdays between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

First Light

One of the most beautiful displays of lights and candles you will ever see, First Light is a holiday tradition that many people will miss this year. Fortunately, there is a virtual tour of First Light so you can curl up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy it without ever leaving home.

Luma Light Trail

Combining nature with a gorgeous lights display, Friday Harbour Resort's Luna Light Trail is a nearly one Kilometer trail that is a perfect night out to celebrate the holidays, Whether you're looking for a romantic evening or a family-friendly adventure.
