Celebrities like Ellen Degeneres, Sandra Bernhard and William Shatner carry a little more weight than the group One Million Moms.
A complaint from the conservative group about commercials featuring same-sex marriage (“Hallmark movies are family-friendly, and you ruined it with the commercial.”) led to Hallmark Channel pulling the ads.
The decision led to a storm of protest from celebrities and advocacy groups, and #BoycottHallmarkChannel was trending on Twitter.
Hallmark issued a statement late Sunday night saying pulling the ads was the wrong decision and it was truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment it caused.
Crown Media Family Networks apologizes for the decision to remove an ad featuring a same-sex couple. “We are truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment this has caused,” said Mike Perry President & CEO, Hallmark Cards Inc. The commercials, for a wedding planning site, will be reinstated.
