We received our first big snowfall of the year last night and with this, always comes a wide range of emotions across the city. For those of you overcome with excitement at the sight of all this "fresh pow" this only means one thing...the ski and snowboard season has begun!
As Barrie residents, we are lucky to have a number of ski and snowboard resorts nearby to choose from including: Snow Valley, Horseshoe, Blue Mountain and Mount St. Louis.
Good news, if you're dying to get out on the hills this weekend, you can. Horseshoe Resort has announced they will be kicking off the ski and snowboard season this Saturday, the 17th. This will be their earliest opening day since 1995. Also, to celebrate opening day Horseshoe will be offering early bird season pass prices both Saturday and Sunday.

Hardwood Ski and Bike has announced they have trails open for cross country skiing and snowshoeing starting today. They recommend using only rock skis for now, as there is no base yet.
No word yet on when the other hills will be opening, but we do know it will be very soon. Here's a sneak peak at what the other local resorts have been doing to prepare for the start of the season.
