Indecent Act Reported On Cookstown-Area Trail

Woman Not Hurt During Incident

Police are on the hunt for a suspect following reports of an indecent act in Cookstown.

A woman was riding her bike along the Trans Canada Trail around 4:00 Sunday afternoon, when she claims to have come upon a man committing the act. She wasn’t hurt in any way.

The suspect is described as a white man with a dark complexion, wearing dark top and shorts.

South Simcoe Police are offering up the following tips to prevent victimization:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Travel in pairs when possible
  • Travel in well-lit and populated areas, especially at night
  • Carry a cellular phone
  • Tell friends or family your intended route and what time you will arrive at your destination
  • Don’t wear headsets or any device that could compromise your hearing
  • Don’t take shortcuts through parks or alleys especially at night
  • Trust your intuition – if something doesn’t feel right, it likely isn’t
  • Call police immediately if you see anyone or anything suspicious
  • If you are a victim of crime, don’t fight back. Provide the best description possible
