Innisfil proposes amendments to fireworks by-law

Residents invited to share their views on recommendations

News release -from the Town of Innisfil

The Town of Innisfil is seeking public input on the proposed amendments to the Fireworks By-Law. At the November 24, 2021 Council meeting, Town Staff presented their recommended amendments to Members of Council in a Staff Report. The recommendations include:

  • Limiting the number of days upon which fireworks can be set off to the day of the holiday (or, in the event of inclement weather, to an alternate day as declared by the Town’s Chief Fire Official);
  • Including Lunar New Year, Diwali and Eid al-Fitr to the dates currently recognized;
  • Adding restrictions on where fireworks can be set off; and
  • Introducing offences for property owners, with higher fines and escalating charges for repeat offenders.

After some discussion, Council deferred the report until December 8, 2021 to gain community input. “Fireworks were one of the most talked-about issue in the community this year,” said Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Deferring this report will give us time for our residents to share their input on the direction we’re considering.”

Residents are encouraged to read the staff report and provide feedback on its direction through a survey at www.getinvolvedinnisfil.ca/fireworks. The survey is open until Saturday, December 4, 2021 and the information gathered will help Council fine-tune the recommendations to ensure that fireworks are used safely and respectfully.
