Local health unit closes out work week with four cases of COVID, two in Barrie

Eighty active cases, no hospitalizations in the region

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) closed out the week by confirming four cases of COVID-19 in the region.

The SMDHU says there were two cases in Barrie and one each in Bracebridge and New Tecumseth on Friday. This is the lowest number of new cases announced in a day since the health unit confirmed 4 cases on September 9.

This brings the week’s total to 45 cases. Last week it was 51. Before that, 32. There have been 136 cases of COVID reported in September thus far. In August, there were 50.

While the local health unit added four cases of COVID, it says ten people have since recovered. There were no new hospitalizations in Friday’s update, and the health unit adds no one in the region is currently in hospital as a result of COVID-19.

As of Friday afternoon, there were 80 active cases throughout Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka.
