Man charged in connection to running from the law and breaking into a garage all in the same morning

Police also laid impaired driving charge

Police in Orillia say they’ve got a drunk driving suspect also facing break and enter charges and more.

Officers were contacted around 9 a.m. January 2 about a man behind the wheel of a parked car in the parking lot of a Murphy Road business. People were knocking on the vehicle window, but police were told the man was not responding. However, it appears he did rouse himself and drive out of the parking lot before officers arrived.

Police spied the vehicle not far away and attempted to stop it, but say it kept going. A short time later, officers were contacted by a homeowner who said someone just broke into his garage and took off.

A suspect was taken into custody a few minutes later. Police say a 55-year-old Bracebridge man has been charged in connection to both incidences. He will answer to charges including impaired operation, flight from police, break and enter, and more.
