Man charged with assault after attempting to report a theft, accused of confronting those he says were thieves

No theft charges laid

A Bradford man who accused another of theft is now facing charges himself.

Around 6:30 Thursday night, police were called to a Holland and Dissette Streets-area home with reports of an assault. Police were told upon arrival a man had been assaulted in his backyard by someone who had accused him of stealing the suspect’s property. Investigating officers say the suspect then forced his way inside the home where a woman was assaulted before he fled the scene on foot.

A short time later, a man went to the South Division police station to report the theft of his property. Police took him into custody. A 42-year-old man faces two counts of assault.

The victims did not seek medical attention and have not been charged with theft, but police note the investigation continues.
