Man shot by OPP officer in Collingwood is facing charges

A 50-year-old man who was shot by police after officers responded to a reported disturbance at a home in Collingwood is facing charges.

Ontario's police watchdog has said police went to a residence on Rhonda Road around 5 p.m. on May 21.

"As an officer approached the home, there was an interaction involving a man. The officer discharged her firearm at the man," according to the Special Investigations Unit.

He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

On Friday, Ontario Provincial Police said they have charged a Collingwood man with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon or causing bodily harm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief endangering life.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
