CES 2022 is just around the corner and Mercedes-Benz is set to show off their newest concept car, the Vision EQXX, possibly capable of driving 1000 km on a single charge.
The real challenge for this concept was creating a car that could drive that far on a single charge, without making the car itself massive. "We said, what if you could drive 1,000 kilometres on one battery charge, but you're not allowed to put a monster battery in the car, and it must resemble a real car that can carry four people, and it must be done with technology that could end up in a series car," said Mercedes-Benz Chief, Ola Källenius, in an interview with Roadshow.
It's not just the propulsion system that Mercedes is hoping to keep sustainable either. The interior of the Vision EQXX is made using tons of vegan products like leather alternatives, silk-like fibres, and even the carpet is made of pure bamboo fibre (something that can be grown very quickly).

The front windshield is also a massive 8K resolution, 47.5-inch heads-up display that incorporates real-time 3D navigation. They didn't have a name yet for this seamless dashboard display but Källenius was keen to call it a "hyper-Hyperscreen".
What makes this concept car different is that Mercedes is treating it as what they call a research car. The tech used in this car won't be things that will only be available to the super-rich, 20 years from now. They hope to bring some of these advancements to production vehicles as early as 2024. "The battery technology is next-gen, it's technology that we are going to use in series production cars, pretty much one to one, in 2024," Källenius said. "And the same goes for the drivetrain, and many other things on the vehicle."
