Millions of COVID vaccine doses headed to Canada this week

First shipment from the U.S. is expected

Days after Premier Doug Ford berated the federal government for a lack of vaccine supply, and even said the rollout was a joke, Canada is expected to receive about 3.3 million shots this week.

Ontario could get the lion’s share based on population.

Since the start of the pandemic, Canada has only received 6. 2 million doses.

Among the doses due for arrival, 1.5 million of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the U.S., the first shipment to come from south of the border.

Canada’s vaccines to date have all come from Europe, with the exception of 500,000 AstraZeneca doses from India this month.

As of Sunday, more than 11 per cent of Canadians have received at least one dose, according to covid19tracker.ca/
