Mix of online and in-person programming being offered in revised YMCA summer session

Y forgoing traditional overnight camping trip for the first time in over a century

The YMCA has revealed its 2020 summer camp plan and admits it will be different than what you’re used to.

This summer, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka will be offering a combination of in-person and online experiences through its various camp programs. This includes a revised in-person day camp for children ages 4-12 in Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, and Wasaga Beach. The local health unit will help the Y ensure a safe space for children, their families, and YMCA staff.

A family camp will operate as of July 6 offering limited programming, while the Y says it will forgo its traditional overnight camp program on Beausolleil Island for the first time since 1919, it will still deliver an online youth leadership development program this summer.

“Camping is a core component to the Y’s legacy of building healthy communities and inspiring people to reach their full potential,” said YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka CEO Rob Armstrong. “We are looking forward to offering programs that will give children and youth the opportunity to experience ‘camp’ this summer, even in the face of COVID-19.”
