More than 46,000 tests processed as Ontario records 653 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday

Toronto, Peel and Ottawa continue to lead the pack in new infections

Ontario reported 653 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. Toronto has 284 new cases, 104 in Peel and 97 in Ottawa.

Nearly 46,300 tests were processed in the past 24 hours. This brings the case positivity rate to 1.4 per cent.

There is quite a backlog of tests, with 90,000 still waiting to be processed.

People under the age of 40 make up 64 per cent of today’s new infections.

There are now 5,380 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. Just six weeks ago active cases were below 1,000.

Four more deaths were reported Saturday along with an additional 37 that were not included in previous totals. The province has recorded 2,968 deaths from the virus.

There are 155 people being treated for COVID-19 in Ontario hospitals and the number of patients in intensive care climbed by four to 41.
