Mother Charged After Infant Left In Parked Car During Heat Wave

Mom Also Facing Theft-Related Charges

A Newmarket woman has been charged with leaving her infant alone in a hot parked car.

Police were called to a Richmond Hill pharmacy parking lot with reports of a child screaming from within a vehicle. By the time officers arrived, the fire service had already gotten the one-year-old child out of the vehicle. The child is said to have appeared to be in distress and was sweating. They were taken to hospital as a precaution.

When the child was recovered from the vehicle, it was 29 degrees outside.

The mother was located inside the pharmacy, and after searching her and the vehicle, police claim she was in possession of stolen property. The 37-year-old was arrested and charged.

The child was turned over to family at hospital, while the Children’s Aid Society has been contacted.
