Motorist charged with impaired after nearly crashing into OPP cruiser in Severn

Two Southern Georgian Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers had a close encounter with an alleged impaired driver in Severn Township.

Police say just before midnight on Thursday, the officers were on patrol when their cruiser was nearly struck by an approaching vehicle at the intersection of Highway 12 and Vasey Road. The officers stopped the sedan and upon speaking with the motorist, launched into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, a 47-year-old Orillia man was charged with:

*              Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

*              Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was handed a court date for later this month.

As well, the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days and the man's driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
