Tardiness is costing a dozen of the 25 cannabis retailers in Ontario thousands of dollars in penalties. The Alcohol and Gaming Commision are penalizing the retailers for failing to open their stores at the beginning of April – in what is a system of escalating fines.
The initial fine is $12,500, which will be taken from the retailers $50,000 initial deposit. These retailers risk losing the entire amount if they still aren’t up and running by the end of April. There was only one pot shop open in Toronto and ten ready for business when the deadline initially rolled around.
