No injuries after Midland home heavily damaged by fire

Flames fueled by high winds

Everyone was able to get out okay following a fire in Midland.

Fire crews were called out to an Eighth Street home near Ottawa St. shortly after midnight Wednesday morning with reports of a fire in the attached garage. While fire crews attempted to knock down the blaze, the flames were fueled by high winds, causing extensive damage to the home.

Backup was called in from Penetanguishene Fire Service, with support from Southern Georgian Bay OPP. The flames were brought under control by about 1:00 in the morning, while fire crews stayed on scene well into the morning to douse hot spots.

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined, while Midland’s fire service has yet to establish a damage estimate.
