Officer nearly struck on the 400 in Tay Township, charges motorist with impaired driving

No injuries reported in incident

A near-miss on the 400 resulted in impaired driving charges laid.

Just after 5 p.m. Wednesday evening, an officer with Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment was out of his vehicle conducting a traffic stop in Tay Township. On the way back to his cruiser, the officer was nearly struck by a vehicle swerving over the highway.

The officer gave chase, only to locate the vehicle a short distance away, stuck in the snow at the centre median of the highway. Police say the driver was trying to free the vehicle when the officer arrived, and was displaying signs of impairment.

A 55-year-old Jacksons Point woman was arrested and charged.
