One-year-old boy dead, officer wounded following Lindsay-area apparent abduction
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) confirms an incident in the Lindsay area on Thursday morning claimed the life of a young boy and put an OPP officer in hospital.
The OPP report receiving a call regarding a domestic dispute involving a firearm shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday. The SIU indicates a father had taken his one-year-old son without permission.
Officers with the Kawartha Lakes OPP tried to stop a pickup teuck in connection to the dispute but say the truck, another vehicle, and an OPP cruiser collided on Pigeon Lake Road in Kawartha Lakes, just outside Lindsay.
There was an altercation between the male driver and three officers, but he was subsequently apprehended and taken to Toronto trauma centre for treatment of injuries. The SIU indicates he suffered a gunshot wound in the process of his arrest. One officer was also rushed to a Toronto hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
It wasn’t until early afternoon that the SIU confirmed the child lost his life in this incident. It reports the child was struck by a bullet.
SIU investigating incident in the City of Kawartha Lakes. As a result of an interaction between a man and police, the man was shot and a police officer was seriously injured. A young boy is deceased. More information to come later.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique says the officer is listed as stable.
